We obtain information directly from you, from photographers who upload photographs or related information, from payment and other service providers, and automatically via the website and the services described below. We use your browser’s language settings to suggest the website language.
3. How we use information
We use information to: manage photographers’ accounts and profiles; host, display and deliver photographs; process purchases, posters, refunds and photographers’ earnings; send service notifications, such as order confirmation emails and notifications to photographers; respond to enquiries and handle requests regarding privacy or the removal of photographs; understand how the website is used; troubleshoot issues; protect the service from fraud and abuse; and maintain records necessary for payments, dispute resolution and compliance with legal obligations.
At present, we do not send promotional emails or text messages, nor do we use customers’ photographs in our own PHOTOHUNTER advertising, promotional images on the homepage or promotional posts on social media.
At present, we do not use facial recognition to search for or identify people in photographs, nor do we use or provide photographs for training artificial intelligence models, including via third-party services.
4. Public information and information we share
Profiles and photographs. Website visitors can view photographers’ profiles and watermarked previews of photographs. A photographer’s public profile may include their name, telephone number, profile picture, country, biography, website, links to social media and activity metrics. Please only include information there that you wish to make visible.
Photographers can view details of orders containing their photographs, including the order number, date, amount, currency, payment status and the photographs included in the order. Anyone with a link to an order can view the order and access any files available for download. Do not share order links with third parties.
Service providers. We disclose information to companies that help us operate the service, including hosting and storage providers, payment providers, email and notification providers, printing and poster delivery services, as well as security and technical support providers. They receive the information necessary to perform these functions, such as files and account records for hosting, payment details for transactions, contact details for service communications, or the original poster file and delivery details for printing and dispatch.
Customer payments are processed via LiqPay for orders in Ukraine and via Stripe for orders in other countries. Information provided during the ordering process includes the buyer’s email address, order IDs, amounts and currencies; card details are entered on the payment provider’s page, and PHOTOHUNTER does not store them. For details on how they handle this information, see Stripe’s Privacy Policy and LiqPay’s Privacy Policy.
Our infrastructure providers include Hetzner (servers in Germany) and Cloudflare (file storage and delivery). Information may be processed outside your country, including in the European Union and the United States, where our operators and suppliers are based.
We may disclose information where required by law, for example to comply with a valid court order or other binding legal process.
We do not sell or rent out customer lists, nor do we provide uploaded photos to advertisers for their marketing purposes.
5. Cookies, analytics and third-party content
We use cookies for account login, your shopping basket, your chosen language and security.
Analytics and other third-party services on the website, where applicable. YouTube videos are embedded on the School of Photography website; YouTube may use cookies and collect information such as your IP address, browser and device details when such a video is displayed. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can also block third-party content using your browser’s settings. If you block these, some features—including logging into your account, the shopping basket and videos—may not work properly.
6. Storage, availability of photos and backups
Unsold photos are stored for the period specified for the photo marketplace, which photographers can view in their account, and are then deleted. Purchased photos can be downloaded within 14 calendar days of purchase; their files are stored at least until the end of this period. Please download your purchased files within this timeframe.
The availability of photographs is not linked to the retention periods for account records, transactions and other records. The expiry of the availability period or the closure of an account does not mean that all associated records are deleted immediately.
When a photographer deletes their profile, it can be restored within 30 days. After this, their personal data (name, email, telephone number, photo, profile texts, links to social media and notification settings) is anonymised, and their unsold photographs are deleted. Orders, payments, payouts and refunds are retained in anonymised form for accounting purposes and to fulfil legal obligations.
We delete other records when they are no longer required to provide the service, process payments or payouts, handle support enquiries and deletion requests, ensure security, resolve disputes or comply with mandatory record-keeping requirements. The retention period depends on the type of record and the purpose for which it is required.
We retain backup copies of the database for recovery purposes. Information deleted from the production database may remain in a backup copy until that copy is replaced or deleted.
7. Your choices and privacy requests
In your account settings, you can view your account details, edit your profile fields and delete your account. Please contact us for assistance with information that cannot be changed there.
To request access to, correction of, or deletion of information about you, please contact the relevant operator (section 1). We may only request information that is reasonably necessary to identify records and verify the identity of the applicant or their authority to act. We will explain what action has been taken or why the information needs to be retained. Any additional rights, response times and exceptions provided for by applicable law remain available, including your right to lodge a complaint with your country’s data protection authority.
Do not share your account login details or order links with third parties. No online service or storage method can guarantee complete security. Please contact us if you believe that someone has gained unauthorised access to your account or order.
8. Children and photographs of other people
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a purchase. Purchases for a child under the age of 18 must be made by a parent or legal guardian. If you believe that a child has provided us with information in direct contravention of this rule, please contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable law.
Photographers must obtain permission from any identifiable people in their photographs before uploading and offering their photographs via PHOTOHUNTER. In the case of a child under the age of 18, permission must be granted by a parent or legal guardian. Written consent is required where required by applicable legislation; verbal consent does not replace the mandatory written consent.
Any future use of uploaded photographs in PHOTOHUNTER’s own advertising, promotional images on the homepage or promotional posts on social media requires separate written permission from the copyright holder and each identifiable person in the photograph; in the case of a child, permission must be granted by a parent or legal guardian. Uploading or purchasing a photograph does not, in itself, grant such permission.
9. Reporting a photograph uploaded without permission
If your photograph — or a photograph of a child of whom you are the father, mother or legal representative — has been uploaded without permission, please contact the operator specified in section 1. Please provide a link or sufficient details to identify the photograph. You do not need an account or the photographer’s assistance to do this.
We will block access to the specified photograph, uploaded without permission, via the service within 24 hours of receiving sufficient information to identify it, including at weekends and on public holidays, even if the photographer does not respond. This timeframe for removing photographs is not linked to the processing of other privacy requests. Blocking access via PHOTOHUNTER cannot delete copies that have already been saved by other people.
10. Changes to this policy
In the event of significant changes, we will post a concise and clear summary at the top of this page and update the effective date. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law.
